Hello, stranger. My name is Thomas Mailund, and this is my weblog. This website is mainly the usual blog ranting you find everywhere on the web — why can’t I have a blog if everyone else have? — so I can keep my official work homepage oh so professional looking.
I am a research associate professor at the Bioinformatics Research Center (BiRC), Aarhus University, Denmark. Previously I did a postdoc at the Dept of Statistics, University of Oxford, UK, and have a PhD from the Dept of Computer Science, Aarhus University.
Bioinformatics focuses on developing computational methods for collecting, handling and analyzing biological data. This includes developing mathematical and statistical models for data analysis and developing the computationally techniques needed to efficiently cope with the models and data. As a computer scientist, my research is mainly concerned with the computational aspects of bioinformatics.
