Moving books to Kindle Select

I’m thinking of moving my books exclusively to Amazon and enrolling them in Kindle Select. I’m not really selling anything in iBooks, I haven’t sold anything at all on Gumroad, and while I do sell a bit on Leanpub, I don’t plan on putting future books there after they made the $99 + VAT fee for them. With Kindle Select, that requires exclusive sales on Amazon, I can make promotions and such, so it is a better choice, I think.

It does mean that I can only sell in the Kindle format—which annoys me a little since it doesn’t support math and doesn’t have the layout I can make with PDFs—but I can make paperbacks to compensate.

Anyway, if you want a PDF or EPUB version, get my books now, because later today I am moving them to Amazon exclusively.

  1. a shame, because I don’t have a kindle and not planning on buying one. amazon is big enough, don’t need my money.
I bought all your books on leanpub, though it was a good interface, but I understand you get the exposure you want.

  2. No worries, I will keep them a bit on Leanpub, but future books will be on Gumroad in any case. I plan to use Gumroad while writing new books instead of Leanpub, because of the fee there

  3. I am not planning on putting books on Kindle right away. The plan is to write them on Gumroad and then a little bit after they are done, I will move them. Anyone who wants to get them early will have no problem getting them from there. Later on, though, I will probably move them as I am more likely to sell on Amazon.

  4. I will certainly make new manuscripts available there but even though Kindle Select doesn’t allow me to sell books elsewhere I’m pretty sure I can give them away, so if you want something that is only there, just write me and I will get it to you

  5. In any case, since you have followed the books from the beginning, I’m very happy to give you them for free. I’m not writing them to make money, just selling them to recover the few expenses I have with writing them, so I’m quite happy to give them away to regular readers, and anyone who reads my blog I would consider regular readers :)

If you leave me a review of any book you can also get it for free.

My next R book will be on algorithms and data structures but I have some other writing projects before I start on it. When I do, I will send you a coupon to get it for free

  6. No no, your investment deserves money back. I am fine with it. I bought the baseball book from David Robinson, mostly to reward him for such a nice blog. So giving money to you is fine, maybe you should just send me your IBAN ;)
Also, I need time to digest also. I am still compiling comments for your data science book ;) For the second edition!

  7. If I stop putting books at Leanpub I only need to make $150 a year to break even and I think I will have no problem with that, so I will value reviews and comments more than money :)
