How many genes do we have?

I stole this picture from Science so I am probably in a world of copyright pain right now, but I felt like sharing it with you…

Measured by number of genes we are really quite primitive.  Of course, the systems biology has a few things to say about the complexity, but the total number of human genes is really surprisingly low.

    We are probably coded in a more high-order language, while the rice plant is coded in C :-D
